General Objectives:

The general objectives of the symposium are to:
• Discuss the actual state of irrigation modernization in Syria and within a broader regional scope of the Middle East and the importance of adopting new approaches and techniques for effective practices;
• Search for solutions, achievements and experiences realized at the international level to achieve sustainable plans and effective measures for irrigation modernization;
• Review methods and accumulated experiences in Syria and within a broader regional scope of the Middle East in the field of irrigation modernization and prioritize issues and challenges for achieving sustainable water development; and
• Provide opportunities for exchange and sharing of experiences and best practices amongst participants in the area of research and development and possible joint ventures.

Specific Objectives:

As an ultimate deliverable, the symposium will draw up recommendations on the constraints and solutions for irrigation modernization supporting the Syrian Government plan and covering the technical, economic, social, institutional and environmental aspects. It will also produce a declaration of act to the Government for its challenging plan of modernization.
